A Soundtrack for Harriet Tubman – Brooklyn

A Soundtrack for Harriet: Stuyvesant Heights Christian Church

Stuyvesant Heights Christian Church was founded in 1928, a time where Black people in Brooklyn were powerless in regards to occupations, where they could live, and how to educate their children. Unemployment for blacks was much higher than for whites, federal housing was given to white people instead of blacks who were in need of livable homes and options.

As a pillar of the community for 93 years, and in celebration of the 200th year bicentennial of Harriet Tubman’s birth and Black History Month: Stuyvesant Heights Christian Church is partnering with the Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre to bring Sean McLeod’s “A Soundtrack for Harriet Tubman” concert with McLeod and jazz legend Wycliffe Gordon to Bed-Stuy.  In an event that celebrates “What it Means to Be Free,” the concert seeds opportunity for new connection through blues, jazz and the gospel music Harriet Tubman loved. This concert is a way to reach beyond traditional programming and embrace important voices through World-class concerts, youth and elder empowerment, and simple talk to foster positive racial, economic, and community responses to be truly seen in our New York City landscape.
